Kia has announced that the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity platforms will be available across its entire range in Europe by the end of 2017.
The recently-unveiled Niro hybrid SUV (pictured, above) will be the first model to score the Android version, while the rollout for the Apple product in the Niro and other models will begin later this year.
Following the Niro, the new Optima Plug-In Hybrid and Optima Sportswagon will also gain the technology ready for their respective European launches later this year.
“In-car connectivity is increasingly important to our buyers, who are young-at-heart and often seek the latest technologies on offer,” Kia Europe COO, Michael Cole, said.
“It makes a great deal of sense to offer full Android and Apple compatibility so our customers can use a wide range of smartphone functions in a safe and seamless way. Kia is integrating these technologies to let drivers maintain their concentration on the road ahead.”
Android Auto allows access to apps, Google Maps navigation and more through the car’s infotainment touchscreen, and can be operated via voice commands.
