Every manufacturer without an electric car for Australia

Here's a list of every car manufacturer in Australia which does not currently produce an electric vehicle for local showrooms – or has begun taking orders in preparation to launch one.

More than half of new-car manufacturers operating in Australia now sell an electric car, after the introduction of the Toyota BZ4X and Subaru Solterra twins in recent weeks.

In 2018 only five car companies sold an electric car in Australia: BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Renault and Tesla. By the end of 2019 it was seven, increasing to 17 in 2021, 28 in 2023, and by the end of this year, it will be at least 33.

However a number of manufacturers – including Top 10 brands which sell 100,000 cars per year – do not have an electric vehicle in production for Australia, due to delays caused by high demand overseas, a sluggish global roll-out, or a lack of interest from its local subsidiary.

It will become increasingly important for car makers to sell an electric vehicle under proposed Australian Government CO2 emissions targets, which are intended to drive the roll-out of electric cars, and use them to offset high-emissions vehicles in a brand's line-up.

Here is a list of every car manufacturer operating in Australia without an electric vehicle currently in production for local showrooms – or open to customer orders ahead of first showroom arrivals in the coming months.
