2022 Jaguar F-Type P450 V8 coming to Australia
Jaguar's recently-updated sports car to gain new mid-tier V8 option in Australia, as the supercharged V6 approaches retirement.
The 2022 Jaguar F-Type range will soon see the arrival of a new, detuned V8-powered P450 variant as a replacement for the soon-to-depart supercharged V6.
A Jaguar Australia spokesperson confirmed to CarAdvice the mid-spec 'P450' variant of the F-Type sports car would be introduced as a replacement for the current supercharged V6 'P380', which is being phased out across the Jaguar Land Rover range in favour of a new, more efficient mild-hybrid inline-six, with the Model Year 2021 F-Type the V6's final application.
Australian launch timing and pricing have yet to be officially confirmed, however it's thought a local launch could occur in late 2021 or early 2022 (for Model Year 2022), given the P380 engine was conspicuously missing from the official list of powertrains available globally with the MY22 F-Type released in April.
While yet to be announced, pricing is likely to be similar to the departing V6 model's $174,765 to $193,465 before on-road costs stickers for coupe and convertible body styles respectively, if US figures are any guide.
Powering the F-Type P450 is a detuned version of the flagship R's 5.0-litre supercharged V8, sending 331kW (or 450 metric horsepower, thus its name) and 580Nm to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
All drivetrain layouts claim to complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds, towards a top speed of 285km/h.
Those figures are healthy improvements over the outgoing P380's claims, which developed 280kW and 460Nm from a 3.0-litre supercharged V6, sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in 4.9 seconds, and hitting a top speed of 275km/h.
However, they're down on the full-featured version of the engine used in the F-Type R, which develops 423kW and 700Nm for a 3.7-second dash to 100km/h.
The P450's Australian launch mirrors the announcement that the detuned V8 option would reach American showrooms for Model Year 2022, and follows the engine's launch in Europe as part of the facelifted F-Type range in 2020.
However, whereas the P450 will replace both P380 supercharged V6 and P300 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder options in the US, Jaguar Australia has confirmed the P300 will be retained locally, serving as the entry point to the F-Type range with 221kW/400Nm and rear-wheel drive.
Australian standard equipment details for the P450 have yet to be confirmed, however don't expect a significant departure from the P380's standard kit list, which includes 'premium' LED headlights, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six-way electrically-adjustable seats, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and single-zone climate control.
There's also a switchable sports exhaust – though the P450 will gain four exhaust tips, versus the P380's dual-outlet setup – plus active dampers (which vary in stiffness automatically, rather than being configured by the driver), limited-slip rear differential, paddle shifters and 20-inch alloy wheels.
A set of 380mm front and 376mm rear brakes are standard on the P450 in the US, versus the 380mm front and 325mm discs fitted as standard to the outgoing P380 in Australia.
