The 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has gained two new special-edition models.
XLS and XLS Plus variants join the line-up of Mitsubishi's segment-straddling Eclipse Cross medium SUV for June 2021, bundled with private buyer-favourite equipment as the Japanese car maker aims to "optimise" its range and navigate supply shortages.
In a statement, Owen Thomson, Mitsubishi Motors Australia senior manager of product strategy, said: "We are always looking for ways to optimise the range through spec and grade variants.
"Over the past year we’ve worked with our dealers to understand the challenges they have with supply constraints, largely related to COVID but now compounded with the semi-conductor challenges, and also what key features customers want to see. We aren’t changing our core range – if you’ve always been a customer that drives, for example, an Outlander Exceed, then you can still order your Outlander Exceed.

Slotting into the middle of the range above base ES and mid-spec LS variants is the new XLS, priced from $34,640 before on-road costs, exclusively in front-wheel-drive, CVT automatic guise.
Additions over the LS include a microsuede/synthetic leather combination upholstery, power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, eight-speaker Mitsubishi Power Sound System, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and front parking sensors.
It also scores a piano black front bumper with a body-coloured insert, body-coloured rear bumper with a gloss-black insert, and gloss black front grille.
Above the XLS sits the XLS Plus, priced from $37,940 before on-road costs in front-wheel-drive form, or $40,440 before on-road costs with Super All-Wheel Control all-wheel drive.
It adds LED headlights, a dual-pane sunroof, leather seat trim, a power-adjustable passenger seat, heated steering wheel, inbuilt satellite navigation, head-up display, and an Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System.
Like the wider Eclipse Cross range (until the arrival of the plug-in hybrid in August), the XLS and XLS Plus are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 110kW and 250Nm to the front or all wheels through a CVT automatic transmission.
The 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross special editions are available to order now.
