2021 Maserati Grecale teased
New medium SUV teased on Italian roads ahead of its full debut later this year.
The 2021 Maserati Grecale has been photographed on the road for the first time, thanks to a trio of teaser images released by the Italian manufacturer.
A prototype of the mid-size SUV hit the streets outside Maserati’s Modena plant, with blurred teaser images distributed to employees who were then tasked with seeding the images out on social media.
Only scant details are known about the Grecale, although it’s rumoured it will share a platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, with a Maserati engine featuring under the bonnet instead of an Alfa-badged mill.
The Maserati Grecale continues the tradition of the brand naming its models after winds, with Grecale said to be the “fierce north-east wind of the Mediterranean Sea”, according to Maserati.
The Grecale will be the brand’s second SUV, following on from the large Levante. Maserati has previously predicted SUVs will account for around 70 per cent of its sales by 2025.
The brand says prototypes of the Grecale are currently undergoing road, track and off-road testing, ahead of the official reveal scheduled for later this year. Additionally, an all-electric variant is expected sometime in 2022.
Further electrification is expected from the trident-badged brand with both the next-generation Quattroporte sedan and Levante SUV set to be available with an electric drivetrain by 2023 or 2024.
