2018-2020 Hyundai Kona and Veloster recalled due to engine fault
A piston ring fault could cause the powertrain to seize, according to the manufacturer.
Hyundai has recalled 9952 examples of its 2018-20 Hyundai Kona SUV and Hyundai Veloster hatchback, citing an engine fault.
The affected vehicles were sold between 2018 and 2020 (stamped Model Years 2018-2020).
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: "The piston rings assembled in engines may be defective, which can cause damage to the piston rings and cylinder bore and impact engine performance.
"A damaged engine may result in the vehicle stalling and/or engine oil leaking. This increases the risk of an accident and/or vehicle fire causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users or damage to property."
