Peugeot 2008 concept previews new compact SUV

The first images of the Peugeot 2008 concept have leaked ahead of the compact SUV's unveiling at this month's Paris motor show.

Sharing much of its design with the Peugeot Urban Crossover concept seen earlier this year – bar the fluoro paint and black highlights – the Peugeot 2008 concept car is believed to be based on the Peugoet 208 platform, ensuring the dimensions stay true to its compact SUV segment.

Expect it to measure in at 4140mm long and 1740mm wide – 245mm shorter and 91mm narrower than an Audi Q3.

While engine specifications are yet to be announced, the mini soft-roader is likely to take advantage of Peugeot’s extensive range of powertrains including both petrol and diesel options.

The Peugeot 2008 concept will spawn a production model, expected sometime in 2013, which will compete with the all-new Ford EcoSport, Holden Trax/Opel Mokka, and a slew of other compact SUVs.

Further details will follow once the Paris show kicks off on September 27.
