2024 GWM Haval Jolion poised for a shake-up in Australia with new hybrid

GWM is expected to overhaul its Jolion small SUV range with a new body for the hybrid – and an update for the petrol line-up.

The 2024 GWM Haval Jolion small SUV line-up is tipped to split in two in Australia with an all-new look for the hybrid, alongside an updated petrol-only model, it is understood.

As first reported by Drive earlier this month, the vehicle sold as the Jolion Pro in overseas markets is expected to reach Australia as the new Jolion Hybrid to replace the current model – though it is yet to be announced if it will wear the Pro badge locally.

Meanwhile, the current petrol-powered GWM Haval Jolion in Australia is expected to be refreshed with an updated exterior and interior.

While the company has not confirmed the new Jolion, the new hybrid – which is also sold as the Chitu, or Red Rabbit in China – has been seen testing in Australia, while GWM has submitted documentation to approve the updated petrol version for sale with the Federal Government.

Drive was invited to test the new hybrid at the company’s proving ground in China.

As with the current hybrid Jolion, the new model is powered by a similar 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid system, sending 139kW and 375Nm to the front wheels through an automatic transmission.

Fuel consumption is claimed at 5.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

Expect the updated 2024 Haval Jolion and Jolion Hybrid to be announced in the coming weeks.
