Nissan Gripz concept teased, hints at a Z-car crossover
The Japanese car maker has confirmed the name, the Nissan Gripz, and the theme of the crossover concept that it will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show.
Nissan formally began its teaser campaign earlier this week when it announced that it would show a "crossover concept" at Frankfurt.
Speculation about the ultimate aim of this concept car centred on the next-generation Juke or, as suggested by a report late last month, a sporty performance crossover that will, effectively, replace the 370Z.
Now that the name's been announced and the preview video (above) has dropped, it seems as though the rumour that Nissan is thinking of applying the Z name to a sports-oriented crossover has same basis in fact.
In the video, there are shots of Z cars in race trim, a cyclist perspiring, wheels spinning, a heart pumping, a chronograph-inspired combined tachometer and speedometer, a DNA double helix, and a V6 engine in action.
According to Nissan, the inspiration for the Gripz concept "came from the legendary 240Z desert racers as well as the sleek two-wheel world of road cycling".
The company promises that concept will explore "a new sporty direction for a Crossover concept and was conceived to create an innovative new driving sensation".
