2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA price and specs: $5700 higher entry price, AMG GLA45 S axed
The Mercedes-Benz GLA small SUV has received an update, with a revised look and minor equipment updates – but the 310kW AMG GLA45 S has been axed.
- 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA pricing and specifications
- GLA45 AMG S dropped, other variants upgraded
- Mild-hybrid technology for remaining models
- Priced from $68,900 plus on-road costs.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA goes on sale today with updated equipment and price increases of up to $5700 – or up to 9 per cent – but the flagship high-performance AMG 45 S grade is no more.
Revealed in March, the facelifted GLA scores minor exterior and interior compared to the outgoing model unveiled in 2019, in what is the mid-life facelift for Mercedes-Benz's smallest SUV.
There are now three models in the range, as the flagship Mercedes-AMG GLA45 S has been dropped for 2024. It remains on sale overseas, but a spokesperson for the German car maker told Drive it will not offer the model “as part of the range in Australia at this stage”.
The updated line-up is priced from $68,900 plus on-road costs in entry-level GLA200 guise – a $5700 increase compared to the 2023 model.
The all-wheel-drive GLA250 4Matic is now $1600 more expensive – starting from $78,900 plus on-road costs – while the now-flagship GLA35 AMG 4Matic tops the range with a $96,900 plus on-road costs price tag.
For 2024, the GLA200 is fitted as standard with Mercedes-Benz’s ‘AMG Line’ exterior appearance package, including new-design front and rear bumpers as well as new-look LED headlights and daytime running lights.
All grades are equipped with revised software running on a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen – now controlled through touch only, with no more touchpad – which now incorporates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside the existing wired connection.
The GLA200 is now fitted with features previously reserved for more expensive GLA grades, such as a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with memory, keyless entry/starting, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera and dual-zone climate control (with rear air vents).
Despite being less expensive than its predecessor, the GLA35 AMG has also been upgraded with a Burmester surround sound system, the AMG Night Package, a head-up display and a ‘Driver Assistance Package’ – which includes lane-centring assist and more advanced blind-spot monitoring.
Engine choices are largely unchanged for the 2024 GLA, apart from a 20Nm increase for the GLA200’s turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine – now producing 120kW and 270Nm which is delivered to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Each variant is now equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which adds up to 10kW under hard acceleration – though mainly to assist at low speeds.
The GLA250 and GLA35 AMG retain their turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, developing 165kW/350Nm and 225kW/400Nm respectively – both mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
