2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid price and specs
Kia's rival for the Toyota Kluger Hybrid is imminent, priced from $66,750 before on-road costs – about $5000 more than an equivalent petrol-only model, but over $10,000 less than the plug-in hybrid.
- 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid pricing and specifications
- GT-Line grade only, with choice of front- or all-wheel drive
- Near-$5000 premium for AWD model over equivalent diesel
- Limited supply, only 20 arriving each month
- Priced from $66,750 before on-road costs
The 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid is on its way to Australia, priced from $66,750 before on-road costs.
Now in showrooms, the Sorento Hybrid completes Kia's new-generation Sorento large SUV range, sitting below the Plug-in Hybrid launched late last year – and serves as the company's rival for the top-selling Toyota Kluger Hybrid and its upcoming (but delayed) Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid twin.
Extreme supply constraints mean only one specification level is available at launch, the fully-loaded GT-Line – though buyers are presented with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, priced from $66,750 and $69,750 before on-road costs, Kia Australia has confirmed.
Those figures slot the Sorento GT-Line Hybrid between the $65,070 before on-road costs of the Sorento GT-Line diesel all-wheel drive (AWD) – a premium of $4680, when comparing AWD models – and the $80,330 before on-road costs of the GT-Line Plug-in Hybrid.
It also undercuts the $75,400 before on-road costs of the Toyota Kluger Grande Hybrid, which is offered solely with all-wheel drive – making it $5650 dearer than an equivalent Sorento.
However, supply of the Sorento Hybrid will be extremely limited, as overseas demand combined with global parts shortages means only approximately 20 examples will reach Australia each month.
Powering the Sorento Hybrid is the same 132kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the Plug-in Hybrid, though it's paired to a less powerful 44kW electric motor and smaller 1.5kWh battery pack, for a combined output of 169kW.
Drive is sent to the front or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Combined fuel economy is believed to be rated at just under 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres, using overseas figures as a guide.
The Sorento Hybrid's standard feature lists mirrors that of other GT-Line variants, with highlights including a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, nappa leather upholstery, bi-LED projector headlights, heated and ventilated electric front seats, and a full active safety suite.
However, the Hybrid is understood to mirror the PHEV in swapping 20-inch wheels for smaller 19-inch units, along with the expected deletion of the Remote Smart Park Assist feature, which allows the car to be moved forward or back from the key fob while standing beside it.
A full standard equipment list can be found at the bottom of this story.
