2021 Toyota Prado price rises and spec changes: More safety tech for base models
Toyota has increased prices across the Prado range as it adds advanced safety tech to base models.
Prices for the 2021 Toyota Prado have gone up by between $777 and $990 as advanced safety technology is added to the two base models, while the two top grades gain new wheel designs.
The 2021 Toyota Prado range now starts from $60,830 plus on-road costs for the five-seat GX (third row option is $2550 extra), $67,530 plus on-road costs for the seven-seat GXL, $77,157 plus on-road costs for the luxury VX model, and tops out at $87,807 plus on-road costs for the flagship Kakadu edition. Metallic paint adds $675.
Information released by Toyota Australia today revealed the GX and GXL variants now come with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert as standard, joining existing technology such as radar cruise control, departure alert with steering assistance, and speed sign recognition.
GX upgrades include a chrome-accented grille and puddle lamps under the side mirrors.
VX and Kakadu variants now come with new 19-inch alloy wheels.
All Prado models are powered by the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel producing maximum outputs of 150kW and 500Nm, upgraded last year at the same time as the Toyota HiLux ute.
The Prado remains available with the option of a 150-litre fuel capacity (an 87-litre main tank and 63-litre sub tank) on versions that have the full-size spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.
“Flat tailgate” versions of the Prado – with the spare tyre mounted underneath the vehicle – have one 87-litre fuel tank and remain a no-cost option on all model grades except the base model GX.
Braked towing capacity is unchanged at 3000kg across the range.
