2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Pricing and Features
Fresh model bolsters SUV ranks for popular brand.
Mitsubishi's answer to the popular mid-size SUV segment has arrived that brings a fresh face into an established line-up of old faithfuls like the all-but-forgotten Lancer and antediluvian Pajero.
With a focus on tapping into the sort of sales enjoyed by the likes of the Mazda CX-5, the all-new Eclipse Cross is positioned between Mitsubishi's compact ASX and larger Outlander SUVs. It borrows its name from the discontinued Eclipse coupe not sold in Australia - the one Paul Walker drove in The Fast and The Furious back in 2001.
While you won’t find neon lights, nitrous bottles or a laptop with “Danger to manifold” warnings inside the new machine, there is a turbo under the bonnet and plenty of toys to play with.
Pricing starts from $30,500 (plus on-road costs) in entry-level LS trim that comes equipped as standard with 18-inch wheels, automatic transmission with shift paddles, halogen headlamps, air conditioning, smart keys, cruise control and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and digital radio connectivity.
Stepping up a grade the Eclipse Cross Exceed adds plusher leather trim, a sunroof, LED headlights, climate control, heated front seats with electric adjustment and more.
The standard car features self-braking forward collision mitigation and lane departure technology, while Exceed models add adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane change assistance and rear cross traffic alert systems.
Both models are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 110kW and 250Nm outputs. Mated to a CVT auto with eight stepped ratios, the engine uses a claimed 7.3L/100km in front-drive form, or 7.7L/100km when equipped with all-wheel-drive as a $2500 option on the Exceed.
All Eclipse models comes with Mitsubishi's five-year warranty plus four years of roadside assistance and three years of capped-price-servicing.
