2015-19 Kia Carnival recalled for door fix
Local notice follows similar issue affecting 106,000 MPVs in the US
Kia Australia has issued a recall for the 2015-19 model-year Carnival over concerns models with power-operated side doors may not recognise objects obstructing their path.
The Korean manufacturer reports the software controlling the power sliding doors may not detect "certain obstructions", and therefore may not auto-reverse when an obstruction is in the door opening.
If the condition occurs, occupants could be injured if an errant limb or finger is obstructing the door as it closes.
A total of 9242 cars are included in the recall – a VIN list for the affected units is available here.
Owners of the recalled vehicles will be contacted by Kia Australia via mail, and are encouraged to contact their local dealer to arrange the inspection and repair of their vehicle.
The local recall follows a notice issued in North America for the near-identical Kia Sedona, which affects 106,428 people movers in the US assembled between 21 July 2014 and December 6 2017.
