More than 100 cars stuck in residential car park in Melbourne
After a botched maintenance job, residents from the St Kilda apartment block are yet to receive information on when they can access their vehicles – with reports suggesting the repair could take weeks.
A group of 120 tenants in a St Kilda apartment building in Melbourne's southeast have been unable to access their vehicles in the car park after a botched maintenance job left the concrete entrance ramp unsafe to drive on.
Residents have not been informed of when they’ll be able to reach their cars – though multiple reports suggest the repair could take weeks to fix.
The building, located on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda – an inner-city suburb approximately six km south-east of Melbourne – was reportedly being assessed for its water drainage system before tradesmen accidentally cut through the concrete ramp.
According to multiple residents, some vehicles were unable to gain access to the car park, with the body corporate responsible for the residential building advising tenants to apply for a temporary street parking permit from Port Philip Council – only to be denied permission.
Steph Young, one of the drivers affected by the incident, told radio station 3AW: “There’s been no communication to the residents or owners about our cars that are physically in the building.
“We get a blanket email saying there’s parking permits available, and when residents went to the council this morning, the parking permits weren’t actually available.”
Maria, another resident living in the building, was fined $96 for parking her vehicle on the street overnight.
She said the council wasn’t aware of the situation at the time when residents were trying to apply for the temporary parking permit.
